DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: WANTED FOR THEFT, HE APPLIED FOR A JOB WITH THE POLICE

by Hazed

If you were wanted by the police, you’d probably be advised to stay away from them, keep a low profile, and avoid coming into contact with the law in any way.

You probably shouldn’t turn up at a police station to apply for a job as a police despatcher!

But that’s what Alberto Saavedra Lopez did recently. He was suspected of stealing about $5,000 from Bank of America while he was an employee between July and September 2016. The bank filed a theft report in October of that year.

Lopez moved house, and kept missing appointments with investigators. They issued a warrant for his arrest, but he refused to answer their calls and avoided all contact with them for another year.

But then a few months ago, he applied for a job as a despatcher for the police department in Cottonwood, Arizona. The cops ran a background check when they received his application – and the warrant came to light. So the crafty cops called him in for a job interview, and when he showed up, they arrested him and subjected him to a different kind of interview altogether.

He should have stuck to his policy of avoiding the police.
