REAL LIFE NEWS: HOW TO DRIVE AWAY EAGLES USING LASERS
by Hazed
Another story involving birds – this time attempts to scare them away from flocks of sheep.
New technology is to be trialled in Argyll, Scotland, where farmers have complained about a problem with eagles preying on new-born lambs. The idea is to shine laser beams onto hillsides to scare away the white-tailed sea eagles. The lasers won’t be shone directly at the birds, but onto the hills, in an attempt to deter the eagles.
Sea eagles are a protected species so any deterrent has to scare them away without harming them.
One farmer said that while not all sea eagles are a problem, some juvenile birds do prey on lambs, and that if this trial is successful it could be extended to other areas where eagles cause problems.
