DUMB FIREFIGHTERS OF THE WEEK: THEY LEFT THE STOVE ON

North Deering fire station in Portland was severely damaged recently. The cause of the damage was fire – and the cause of the fire was the firefighters themselves, who left the stove on.
It happened on a Saturday night, when the firefighters had just started to cook their dinner. A call-out came in and they rushed off to deal with the fire. Unfortunately in their hurry they failed to turn off the stove. In their absence, insulation in the building caught fire.
Presumably they got a surprise when they heard a call-out for their own station!
“Firefighters are human just like everyone else and sometimes mistakes occur when in a rush,” Fire Chief David Jackson said. “In this instance, this crew was responding to a call and they thought the stove was properly turned off before leaving. Kitchen fires are the most common type of home fire and (cause of) fire injuries. We’d like to use this opportunity to remind our citizens this can happen to anyone and it’s important to cook safely.”
Very ironic.
