REAL LIFE NEWS: EMPLOYEES TO BE IMPLANTED WITH MICROCHIPS

by Hazed

A vending machine firm in Wisconsin, USA, has offered its employees the exciting opportunity to become cyborgs by having microchips implanted under their skin. The chips will take the place of an employee ID card.

Three Square Market says it will offer the implantable RFID chips from next month. A press release on the company’s blog explains, “Employees will be implanted with a RFID chip allowing them to make purchases in their break room micro market, open doors, log in to computers, use the copy machine, etc.”

Speaking about the chipping project, the company’s chief exec Todd Westby also suggested the implants could be used for payment. “We’ll hit pay with a credit card, and it’s asking to swipe my proximity payment now. I’ll hold my hand up, just like my cell phone, and it’ll pay for my product.” Looking to the future, he enthused, “Eventually, this technology will become standardized allowing you to use this as your passport, public transit, all purchasing opportunities, etc.”

The chips are the size of a grain of rice, and they will be inserted between the thumb and the forefinger. Each implant costs $300.

Given that the company sells vending machines, it looks like they are using their staff as guinea pigs for a potential product offering.
