REAL LIFE NEWS: A FREE FOUNTAIN OF WINE

Imagine coming across a fountain that doesn’t flow with water, but with wine. It sounds like something from a fantasy, but it’s now a reality in an Italian town.
The fountain is in Abruzzo, and it flows with locally-produced wine 24 hours a day – and it’s completely free.
The fountain, called the fontana del vino, is in Caldari di Ortona, along a popular pilgrimage route, the Cammino di San Tommaso. Thousands of people travel this route from Rome to Ortona, both pilgrims and tourists, to visit the city’s cathedral.
The fountain is a joint venture between the local vineyard and the organisation that maintains the pilgrimage route. “The wine fountain is a welcome, the wine fountain is poetry,” the Dora Sarchese vineyard wrote on its Facebook page.
It noted that the fountain was not a place for “drunkards” or “louts”, nor was it a “publicity stunt”. Maybe not, but I bet it boosts visitors.
