REAL LIFE NEWS: HONEY DRIPS DOWN HOSPITAL WALLS
by Hazed
A hospital in Cardiff, Wales, had a very unusual problem recently. A strange substance was discovered oozing from the ceiling and dripping down the walls. What kind of alien excretion was it?
It was honey!
Two colonies of bees had set up home in the hospital roof, with over 110,000 bees buzzing around up there. All would have been well if it hadn’t been for a bout of hot weather, which had melted the honeycomb that holds the honey and bee larvae in place. Hence the sweet oozing.
Pest control was called, and meanwhile the hospital staff used towels to soak up the pools of honey on the floor.
A team from The Tree Bee Society, a not-for-profit company that protects bees, came and removed the bees by using a circular saw to cut around the nests and then transfer them to boxes. They will be transported to the Tree Bee Society’s facility where they can spend their days in a field happily buzzing around.
