REAL LIFE NEWS: SPACE X NOW OFFERING TRIPS TO MARS – FOR CARGO

Not long after the successful barge landing of its Falcon 9 rocket (which they repeated a few days ago – see second link below), Space X is now planning trips to Mars, and is offering to sell space on one of its missions, starting in 2018. Sadly you can’t go yourself – the space is only for cargo.
This information has appeared on the company’s “capabilities” page of its website. It now includes an option for “Payload to Mars”. You can have 4,020kg sent on a Falcon 9 rocket, or 13,600kb on a Falcon Heavy.
The price is probably a little beyond your reach, too, because they are charging $62 million to $90 million. However, the page does say that there are discounts available for multi-launch purchases. Good to know.
This is all a bit speculative, because the Falcon Heavy has yet to be tested. Its test flights are scheduled for November 2016 and March 2017. So keep your checkbook in your pocket for now.
