REAL LIFE NEWS: GHOSTLY MARIAH CAREY CHRISTMAS AUDIO
by Hazed
If you’re sick and tired of hearing Christmas songs everywhere you go, take heart that there are only another five days to go. Meanwhile, it seems you can’t avoid hearing some Christmas voices – even when they aren’t there.
Check out the source link below for an example of how the brain tricks itself into filling in the gaps, so it hears what it expects to hear. There’s a strange video of the Mariah Carey hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. The sound has been converted to a MIDI file, which is such a stripped back format that there’s no vocals included.
And yet, if you listen, you can hear the lyrics being sung in the background. At least, you can if you are familiar with the song. People who have never heard it before won’t hear the ghostly Mariah.
It explains why I can quite happily listen to music playing in the car, and not notice the bad quality or the fact that it’s getting drowned out by traffic noise – my brain knows what the songs sound like, so patches over the missing information.
It’s a fascinating phenomenon.
