REAL LIFE NEWS: SMITHSONIAN WANTS YOUR CASH TO FUND NEIL ARMSTRONG SUIT DISPLAY

by Hazed

46 years ago, Apollo 11 touched down and Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. The suit that he wore is currently in storage, but the Smithsonian Institute wants to put it on display in a special climate-controlled display case, and team it with a full 3D digitization of the suit.

In order to do this, they are appealing for money using a Kickstarter campaign called “Reboot the Suit”. They hope to raise half a million dollars.

Contributors will get rewards which range from a digital poster download to a personal tour of the lab where the suit is stored – although to get that, you’ll need to donate £10,000.

The campaign runs for 30 days, and if the money is raised then the display should be completed in time to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landings in 2019. It will then be added to a larger permanent exhibit on the moon landings at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.

If the money isn’t raised, the suit will go back into storage.

I hope they get the money – it sounds like an exciting project.
