If, like me, you spend far more time than you should watching videos of cute cats on the internet (which is, after all, made of cats) then don’t feel guilty – it’s good for you.
A new study finds that viewing cat videos boosts viewers’ energy and positive emotions, and decreases negative feelings. A researcher from Indiana University Media School, Jessica Gall Myrick, surveyed almost 7,000 people and asked them about their viewing of cat videos and how their moods were affected.
Participants reported that they felt more energetic and positive after watching cat videos, and had fewer negative emotions such as anxiety, annoyance and sadness.
One finding was that people who like cats are more likely to watch cat videos. No surprises there!
So no, I’m not wasting time watching cat videos when I should be working. I am taking care of my health and wellbeing. Honest!
