Stem cells are often touted as the great hope of medicine, with the potential to cure all kinds of nasty things. Now it’s been announced that they could see an end to baldness.
Ok, going bald is not a life-threatening condition, but as any man who suffers from it will tell you, it’s embarrassing and depressing. Around half of men will suffer from male-pattern baldness by the time they reach 50.
Scientists at the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in San Diego, California announced recently that they have been able to grow new hair using human stem cells. This could lead to more effective hair transplants.
Good news for any man approaching middle age who is starting to go a bit thin on top!
