A Great Dane in Portland, Oregon, was rushed to the emergency animal hospital by his owners because he was retching and showing signs of distress. X-rays showed his stomach was full of a “large quantity of foreign material” – clearly it was something he ate.

The pooch’s unusual meal happened back in February, but it’s being reported now because it won a prize in a vet magazine’s contest, fittingly entitled “They Ate WHAT?” But it didn’t win first prize. No, there was actually a more extreme story of a pet eating something strange, so the winner was a frog that age 30 small rocks from its cage.
