FORGOTTON CORNERS OF THE IBGAMES WEBSITE

by Hazed

In the absence of any substantial news about happenings in Fed DataSpace this week, I thought I’d remind you of some of the things you can find on the ibgames website that you might have forgotten about – that’s if you ever knew about them in the first place!

Helping New Players is a tutorial that explains just how much help to give new players, how to gauge their level of experience with games, and how to encourage them to come back to Fed. If you’re online when a new player shows up, you will find it useful. http://www.ibgames.net/fed2/newbods/index.html

Battle of the Game Designers was a session held back in 1997 to discuss issues involved when designing a multi-player game. In the red corner was Alan and in the blue corner was Jim Dunnigan, who designed many strategy and wargames which ran on the Genie network. The transcript of their entertaining – and at times heated – discussion is on the website. http://www.ibgames.net/stuff/battle.html

The Federation Archive has a wealth of material covering the many eras of Fed: right back to its birth on the UK’s Compunet network, through the Genie years and the hugely successful AOL period, and then our move to the web. There’s enough material here to keep you occupied for days! http://www.ibgames.net/archives/fed/index.html

I’ll dig out some more lost gems next time I have a gap to fill in the Fed2 Star.
