BROKEN ROBOT OF THE WEEK
by Hazed
Sometimes robots don’t do what you want them to do. Just like any tech, they are prone to go wrong – and sod’s law dictates that the chances of them fouling up will go up if you are trying to show them off in a demo.
Robotics researchers from Hong Kong had confirmation of this when they were demonstrating their prize robot, Atlas. It’s a walking robot and the University had won a bid to get it working fully, after it had been designed by MIT spin-off Boston Dynamics.
But towards the end of its performance, which included some nifty tai chi moves, Atlas fell over and broke its ankle!
Fortunately for Atlas, the broken leg can be fixed, so unlike the fate of horses whose limbs snap, it won’t get shot.
