REAL LIFE NEWS: WHITE WINE COMES IN LARGER MEASURES
by Hazed
When you decide how much wine you want to pour into a glass and drink, you might think you are exercising a rational choice about the degree of intoxication you are aiming for. But it turns out you’re influenced by the strangest of things.
The colour of the wine – red or white – affects how much you drink, and so does the shape and size of the glass.
Researchers at Iowa State University asked people to pour what they considered a normal drink, using different types of glass. They found that when pouring white wine into a clear glass, the participants poured 9% more than when pouring red. They also gave themselves 12% more if they were pouring into a wide glass than a normal one.
They should do what I do: just measure the amount you drink by the bottle, not the glass. That takes all the uncertainty out of it!
