REAL LIFE NEWS: HAMLET DEEMED TO VIOLENT FOR WIFI

by Hazed

William Shakespeare is usually considered the most important British author. The British Library is he national organisation charged with keeping a repository of printed matter, with the slogan “explore the world’s knowledge”.

So when a British author was sitting in the British Library last week working on writing a book, he was surprised – nay, horrified – to discover that when he tried to Google for Shakespeare’s famous play Hamlet, the Library’s wifi told him he couldn’t access it because it was too violent! Well, sure, everyone does die at the end but still... oh, sorry, should I have included a spoiler warning?

He complained to staff but didn’t get much satisfaction, so fired off an angry email. That did the trick, and whoever is in charge of the Library’s filters quickly fixed this strange error.

And then my favourite source for stories, The Register, reported this news with an article packed full of quotes from Hamlet. It’s a far greater piece of journalism than anything I could have come up with, so I urge you to click on the source link below and read their splendid article.
