PROPOSAL OF THE WEEK

by Hazed

The scientific community worldwide let out a collective “Awwww” when they heard about the way one of their fellows had proposed to his sweetheart.

Australian physicist Brandon made his proposal in the form of a scientic paper, entitled “Two-body interactions: A Longitudinal Study”. This refers to a classic physics problems for the gravitational forces of two bodies, such as a planet and a satellite that orbits it, or a planet orbitting a star - or, on a smaller scale, an electron orbitting an atomic nucleus. (More info on two-body problems here.)

In the paper, Brandon documented the progress of his relationship with Christie as if it were an experiment. He described their meeting as “optimal conditions” and moving in together as “isolating the two body interaction”.

Brandon’s paper on the subject concludes with the statement, “the author proposes to Christie the indefinite continuation of the study”.

Christie is another Australian physicist, and the good news is that she accepted Brandon’s proposal by ticking the box marked “Yes”.

The paper was actually written last March, but it’s come to light now because Christie recently posted it on the popular website Reddit.

I hope their wedding has a similar science theme.
