REAL LIFE NEWS: CHOCOLATE TURNS YOU INTO A KILLER

Last week I told you that chocolate would make you so much more intelligent, you’d win a Nobel prize. This week, sadly I have to highlight that this huge benefit to chocolate consumption is offset by a disadvantage: it turns you into a serial killer.
Of course, the paper I wrote about wasn’t really arguing that eating chocolate would make you cleverer: it was a joke, intended to point out that correlation does not equal causation, and that you can prove anything with statistics if you try hard enough.
Now two people have taken this idea further, and shown that chocolate consumption correlates with the number of serial killers and rampage killers in a country: just as ridiculous a proposition.
Unfortunately these two authors seem to assume that the original study was carried out in all seriousness, so they use their strange correlation to debunk it. Bit of a sense of humour failure, I think!
