DUMB COPPER OF THE WEEK

by Hazed

Normally I rejoice in dumb criminal stories, about miscreants who commit crimes in such a cack-handed manner as to make it really easy for the police to catch them. But this week, it’s an officer of the law that has been caught acting dumb.

An embarrassed police constable in northern England is taking a great deal of stick from his amused colleagues right now, after he spent a while investigating a suspicious light source which turned out to be... the moon!

The hapless plod was on duty in Worcestershire late one evening recently when he noticed a “shining light” glowing over a range of scenic hills rising up more than 1,000 feet. He sent out a radio message to his sergeant saying he was going to investigate the “suspicious bright light” and warned he might need back-up.

The area is well-known as a popular spot for outdoor sex so clearly the constable thought he’d catch some offenders at it. But after a 20-minute walk up the hill, the sheepish copper radioed back to say that the bright light was in fact just the full moon.

Apparently, he was reluctant to come back on duty the next day, knowing he was due to get a ribbing - and he’s had pictures of werewolves put on his locker by his unsympathetic colleagues.
