SHOCK ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WEEK: MERMAIDS DON’T EXIST

I am sorry to shatter your dreams. I know this will be a shock to many of you. But the US Government has made an announcement: mermaids do not exist.
The National Ocean Service has said there is no proof that they are anything more than a myth. The reason they have made his statement is because there have been public enquiries about the issues - yes, really - following a TV show which people took to be a factual, truthful documentary rather than the sort of sensational made-up rubbish that gets broadcast these days.
The programme in question was on the Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet network in May, and was called “Mermaids: The Body Found”. Apparently, the show was not intended to be taken seriously - but some viewers did.
Hence the service writing an online post that says, “No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found.”
Ah, but absence of evidence is not the same as evidence of absence...
