DUMB CRIMINAL OF THE WEEK: THE TALIBAN TERRORIST

by Hazed

This story ups the ante on the usual dumb criminals we cover. It’s one thing to be an inept bank robber or mugger, but this week the person doing something really, really stupid is a Taliban terrorist.

Mohammed Ashan was on the wanted list in Afghanistan as a mid-level Taliban commander who was suspected of plotting attacks on security forces. He had a reward on his head of $100.

Officials were aghast when he presented himself at a police checkpoint and surrended - then demanded the $100 bounty!

US troops were called in to check whether he was the terrorist they were looking for. “We asked him, ‘Is this you?’” said Specialist Matthew Baker, adding that the suspect answered, “Yes, yes, that’s me! Can I get my award now?”

When a biometric scan confirmed that Ashan was, in fact, who he claimed to be, he was promptly detained. Presumably without being given his reward.

“This guy is the Taliban equivalent of the ‘Home Alone’ burglars,” a US official told the press.

If all the terrorists were this dumb, the war on terror would be over very soon.
