REAL LIFE NEWS: WORKSHY EXTREMIST OF THE WEEK

by Hazed

There are days when I just don’t feel like going to work, but no matter how much I want to skive off, I would never resort to the drastic methods used by an unemployed Austrian man to avoid work.

He was due to go to his local labor office to checked for his fitness to work. Fearful that he would lose his unemployment benefits and be forced to go out and get a job, he picked up a saw and cut off his own foot.

Then, in a bid to make sure doctors couldn’t reattach it, he threw the detached foot into the oven.

“The planning was meticulous,” Franz Fasching, a police spokesman, told the Daily Mail. “He waited until his wife and his adult son had left the house and he was alone. He then switched it on and sliced off his left foot above the ankle—throwing it in the fire so it would not be possible to reattach it before he called emergency services.”

He “then made his way to the garage where he called emergency services and waited for them to arrive.”

He almost died on the way to the hospital due to loss of blood, but doctors managed to stabilize him by putting him in an artificial coma.

The really bad news is that his extreme method of avoiding employment probably won’t work, because being footless doesn’t necessarily qualify someone for unemployment benefit. A spokesman for the labor office said, “He will be assessed once he is out of hospital, and we will see what work we can find for him.”
