REAL LIFE NEWS: WII WORKOUTS DON’T MAKE YOU FIT

by Hazed

I’ve read reports in the past that using the Nintendo Wii to help you keep fit doesn’t work in the long run. Now a new study shows that for children, it is useless.

The problem is that kids who perform vigorous exercise using the Wii then reduce their activity in other ways, so overall there is no difference in the amount of exercise they get during the day.

You can read the technical details of how the research was carried out by clicking the source link below.

Of course, the only reason the Wii is singled out for this kind of study is that such grandiose claims were made for its ability to improve fitness levels. The same result would no doubt apply if you studied groups of children who were put through a daily Phys Ed routine - they wouldprobably slow down at other times to compensate too.

Not to mention, of course, that exercising makes you hungry so it probably encourages the kids eat more!

It seems the childhood obesity epidemic (if it even exists, which I doubt) won’t be solved by using such simplistic schemes as forcing kids to exercise.
