NEW FED2 CODE TO GO IN MONDAY

Alan is back! After the long delay caused by his move to a new home (and a brief detour to my flat to build some new shelves for me - after all, he’d proved so adept at assembling IKEA furniture!) he’s finally been able to get back to the computer, and is ready to put in the new Fed2 code that will prepare the game to move off the physical server and onto a cloud-based virtual server.

Normally, this would be of no interest to players at all, because unless he’s done something wrong, there are no visible changes - it’s all stuff in the background to do with the way the game stores your account details, logs you in and out, and so on.

However, I am telling you about this because in order to put the new code in, Alan will have to keep the game down for a couple of hours.

What will happen is that after tomorrow’s reset, the game will come back up as normal but after 5 or 10 minutes it will close again. During that time, Alan will instruct the game to write out all the account information. Then it will stay down for a while - it could be up to two hours - while he converts that account info into the new format it needs, and puts in the new code.

So this is your advance warning: on Monday March 5, when the reset happens at (approximately) 8.00am eastern, if you log back on right away you will then get kicked off again a short while later, and will have to wait about two hours for the game to return again.

Also, company owners need to be aware that this may affect company cycles so you may find they don’t advance a day at Tuesday’s reset.
