REAL LIFE NEWS: DUMB CRIMINALS AND CLEVER VICTIM

by Hazed

Two thieves were caught when one of their victims turned the tables on them, using their own methods against them.

Jonathan D Miller and Myshawn L Bonds had a neat little modus operandi. They would search Craigslist for people selling valuable items, and make appointments to come and purchase the goods - but then they'd grab the stuff and run off, subsequently selling their loot on the web.

The two men from Carpentersville, Illinois, arranged to meet a man in the parking lot of a local high school, in order to buy a Roger Dubois watch that he had been advertising on the site for $8,000. But when he arrived, the robbers grabbed the watch and legged it.

Later, the victim logged onto Craigslist and discovered that not only had the criminals put the watch they had just stolen up for sale, they were using the same photos the victim had originally used, including one of the individually-numbered back plate on the watch. Now that's cheeky.

So the victim contacted the new seller (who was offering the watch at the knock-down price of $7,000) and arranged to buy it, and then called the Carpentersville police.

When Bonds and Miller showed up, they had the watch with them, and were arrested.

Hoist by their own petards!
