REAL LIFE NEWS: BEER BY iPAD

by Hazed

Speaking of beer, a pub in south-east London - only a couple of miles from where I live - plans to install self-service beer taps at customers' tables so they can help themselves to the house brew. It'll also provide iPads that the punters can use to order other drinks and food.

The Stamford Arms in Stamford Street is being sold to a company called The Thirsty Bear, which plans to refurb it and add the new tech in the New Year. It's just had its license agreed by the local council.

Concern was raised about the self-service beer pumps allowing people to get drunk too easily, and also about underage drinkers being able to get booze, but the beer taps on all tables will be switched off by default, and only enabled after a member of staff has checked the ages of all the customers and ensured they are not already plastered. Staff will also be able to turn off the taps if they think a drinker has had too much.

I will keep an eye out for an announcement about the pub opening, and be sure to go and try it out.
