CONSEQUENCES OF THE RESET TIME CHANGE

by Hazed

Fixing the lagging reset this way won't cause the massive problems that actually changing the server's clock would, but it will still affect some things in the game. In particular, businesses and companies will not have their accounts advanced a day.

The reason is because the game has code in it to ensure that things that are meant to happen once a day don't automatically happen whenever the game fires up, but instead only happen when it has been 24 hours since the last time they happened.

Otherwise, if the game crashed (yes, it does happen occasionally!) then these housekeeping chores would happen more than once - for example, company accounts would advance a day with every crash.

This means that if, for any reason, the resets happen less than 24 hours apart, those things will not happen at the second reset. You will have noticed this when Alan extends a reset to 10 or 15 minutes in order to do an offsite backup of the files: the game fires up later than normal, the reset on the following day happens less than 24 hours after it fires up, and therefore the housekeeping chores don't get done.

When Alan changes the reset time in two weeks, the reset on Saturday will happen less than 24 hours after the previous reset, so that's when the game will miss doing its daily chores.

For the future, we'll keep an eye on the lagging clock and when it has lost another half an hour of real time, we'll change the reset time again by another half an hour, to bring it back to the "normal" time.
