REAL LIFE NEWS: SKIVING TELECOMMUTERS

by Hazed

When the internet first became common people predicted that more and more people would be able to work from home, telecommuting rather than travelling to the office. But it's never really taken off, perhaps because bosses are suspicious that when they are not under supervision, their minions just won't do the work.

Turns out, they may be right! According a new survey, almost one in five Americans who work from home only do an hour's work a day.

40% of telecommuters say they work between four and seven hour and 35% claim to be working eight hours or more.

You probably already suspected this, but it is now confirmed that 41% of women and 22% of men who work at home don't bother to get dressed, but stay in their pajamas.

So what are these slackers doing instead of their work? Top distraction is housework - 31% of people find household chores more compelling than the work they should be doing. For 26% it's the TV, and 23% it's pets. Only 15% said it was their kids that kept them from working.

None of this surprises me in the least. I worked from home for 12 years, while ibgames made enough money to pay my wages, and I found it extremely difficult to stay focussed on my work - even when I was my own boss.

Although usually, I did manage to get dressed every day, even if it wasonly in a ratty t-shirt and grubby jeans!
