REAL LIFE NEWS: IPADS COMPULSORY FOR CHINESE STUDENTS

by Hazed

If you're a student, there's certain things you are expected to buy and take with you to class. A pen. A pad of paper. Text books. That kind of thing.

But a Chinese lecturer has raised the bar considerably, by insisting that his students get themselves an iPad.

What if you can't afford one? Well, he suggests you get out there over the summer and raise some money. And if you can't get enough then you have no business joining his financial services class.

The lecturer is called Liang Zhenyu and he teaches at the Shanghai Maritime University. He sent out a tweet (or the Chinese equivalent, using the Weibo service) saying that he'd be using an iPad for all lessons, handouts and exam material:

"I hope every student would go to purchase an iPad, because iPad represents the most modern thinking, and my students must like that. If you don't have the money to buy one, then you go to earn money. If you cannot earn merely 4000 Yuan (about $620) within the holiday, then you are not suited to this course, and you are not necessary to be my student."

Well, that sure teaches the kids about capitalism!

That's not the only demand Zhenyu makes on his students. He also expects them to wear business attire to his lectures, and says that females should wear light makeup. His justification is that he's trying to teach students how to survive in the business world.

He does practice what he preaches, though, saying: "I always wear shirts, suits, handkerchief to work, never wear a sweater, without exception ... I myself, if I'm late for class, even if late for a minute, I will [do] self-punishment in front of the classroom ... 50 push-ups."

No word on whether he insists the students do push-ups if they are late.
