REAL LIFE IMITATES FED, PART II: KISSING MACHINE

by Hazed

If you are parted from your lover, you can communicate by phone or using the internet but you cannot touch them, hug them or kiss them. But Japanese researchers are working on an internet kissing machine that will let you lock lips with your lover remotely.

This doesn't just imitate Fed, it goes one better! In Fed DataSpace, remote kisses just involve blowing a kiss over the comms, not using some kind of creepy machine to do it.

The kissing simulator is being developed by the Kajimoto Lab at the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo. "This device is for communications within the mouth," said Nobuhiro Takahashi. "In other words, the goal is to obtain the feeling of kissing."

So you kiss the machine and the machine communicates the kiss to its counterpart, and then to your absent paramour.

I can't see how it can be a satisfactory substitute for the real thing. In fact, it sounds positively unpleasant!
