REAL LIFE NEWS: BE CAREFUL HOW YOU FIRE YOUR NETWORK ENGINEERS

by Hazed

A network engineer who was fired by the American branch of Gucci has just been charged with a revenge hack attack.

Sam Chihlung Yin, 34 years old, from New Jersey, was dismissed by the US branch of the Italian luxury goods retailer. Six months later he broke into their computer network and enacted his revenge, shutting down servers, deleting data, and causing damage and lost productivity costs estimated at $200,000.

As a result, Gucci had no access to their documents and email for nearly 24 hours, while other data was permanently lost. The company called in investigators who tracked the attack back to Yin, and he's now been indicted on 50 counts of computer hacking, identity theft and falsifying business records amongst other charges.

For a technical explanation of just how he carried out his revenge hack attack, click on the link to the source article below.

Once again, the moral is that if you fire a techie, make sure you close down all the ways he could access your servers!
