REAL LIFE NEWS: POLITICIAN PROVES THE OLD SAYING

by Hazed

"How do you know a politician is lying? Because his lips are moving." A prospective councillor in Derby, England, certainly proved that recently when he was caught out lying on a radio phone-in. The irony is that the topic under discussion was: honesty in politics.

Ashley Waterhouse was the conservative candidate for one of the wards in the city. He phoned up Radio Derby a few days ago to make a comment on their breakfast show, backing "calls for election candidates to face more rigorous screening of their backgrounds."

When there is an election in the offing, all callers are specifically asked if they are standing for election. Waterhouse said he wasn't, and gave a false name, calling himself Paul.

But somebody at the radio station recognized his voice and his phone number, so they phoned him back and asked him whether he was, in fact, Ashley Waterhouse. The host of the breakfast show, Phil Trow, explained, "We phoned him back three times and had three different conversations and he came up with a whole list of elaborate excuses. Eventually he phoned back and confessed."

The lying lier offered to resign as the candidate, but Derby South Conservative Association rejected his resignation. It's chairman, Phil Bailey, said: "I think it was a genuine mistake, I don't think it was deceit and lies. I just think he wanted to get his point over and I think it was the only way he could see to do it."

It will be interesting to see whether he gets elected to the council at the elections in May, or if the public reject him for his duplicity!
