REAL LIFE NEWS: SEE, I TOLD YOU THAT WORK WAS BAD FOR YOU

by Hazed

If a food addiction doesn't kill you, then work might do it. It turns out that if you work long hours you are at greater risk of heart disease.

By "long hours" they mean more than 11 hours a day, which is pretty excessive. The report from the University College of London is based on a study of over 7,000 civil service employees whose health has been tracked since 1985.

Over the course of the study, 192 of the participants suffered a heart attack. Those who worked at least 11 hours a day were more than half as likely again to have a heart attack than those who worked shorter hours: the risk went up by 67%.

The suggestion is that doctors should now ask patients about their working hours, along with all the other health questions. "This new information should help improve decisions regarding medication for heart disease," said Professor Mika Kivimaki, who lead the research. "It could also be a wake-up call for people who overwork themselves, especially if they already have other risk factors."

I would think it's the bosses who need that wake-up call, so they stop expecting employees to work such ridiculously long hours!
