REAL LIFE NEWS: ARSONIST CAUGHT BECAUSE OF DISCARDED FINGERTIP

by Hazed

I'm not sure this is a dumb criminal story so much as an unfortunate criminal story. Police have arrested a suspected arsonist after he left something incriminating at the scene of the crime - the tip of his finger!

Police were called to a house fire in Titusville, Florida and while investigating they discovered evidence of accelerant. Their conclusion was that this was arson. Then while sifting through the wreckage they got a tip - quite literally - when they found a piece of latex glove that contained the tip of a finger.

It didn't take them long to find their suspect at the local hospital. 24-year-old Ismael Ortiz confessed to the crime after police matched him to the discarded body part. It was left behind at the arson scene because when he was fleeing after setting the fire, he slammed his finger in the door and it cut off the tip of his finger.

Ortiz was an arsonist-for-hire, paid by a resident of the home so he could collect on a renters insurance policy. Police are now seeking Samuel "Sammy" Davis.
