REAL LIFE NEWS: COPYRIGHT POSTER WINNER BREAKS COPYRIGHT

by Hazed

From the department of huge ironies, comes the story of a man in Taiwan who won a poster design competition to promote copyright protection, but was later exposed as a copycat who had ripped off the design from somebody else.

He has been identified only by his surname, Wu. He's been stripped of his prize and has apologized, admitting that he copied his winning design from a work by a Dutch artist, Denis Sibeijn. The copied picture featured a paper plane and - to make the irony even more overwhelming - was entitled "Truth".

Wu's deception surfaced after his poster featured on a billboard at Taipei subway station and a commuter recognized the picture and reported the deception. The posters have all been taken down but Taiwanese authorities have said that if Sibeijn files a lawsuit, Wu would face a big fine or even a jail term of up to three years.
