FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday July 20
by Fancy-Fancy, Gengineer of Toontown

Four players joined me in Studio 1 for the Fed Phrase Game. Gizmo, Jfour, Merepoule, and shortly after we got underway, Gandolf came into Studio 1 to play. Knowing the game is played like that old Earth TV game show Wheel of Fortune explained how to play well enough for our players tonight. We got right to setting the order, which had Merepoule first up, followed by Jfour, then Gizmo, then finally Gandolf when he showed up.

Our first puzzle was 4 word things (8, 6, 3, and 9 letters), and Merepoule got to start it. She started off finding three S's for 600 each, followed by three N's for 400 each, for a quick 3000. She built on that with a D, three T's, buying the A's and E's, three P's for 1000 each, two R's for 500 each, and then bought the I's before solving - Japanese prints and triptychs. Her successful solve put Merepoule on the board with 7750 points.

Tonight's second puzzle was 2 word people (11 and 7 letters), and Jfour was up next to start it. He started it, however, with a Bankrupt, which sure made it look like Merepoule picked the right time to solve Round 1. Gizmo took over and found an R for 150, a pair of S's for 100 each, a pair of T's for 400 each, bought the E's, found an L, and then bought the A's, only to find there were none in the puzzle, ending his turn. At that point, the puzzle was almost literally showing every other letter. Gandolf took over and found an N, pair of P's, pair of C's, and a V, leaving only vowels. He correctly solved - prospective clients - to win Round 2 for 2600 points.

We quickly went to our third puzzle, a 3 word thing (4, 7, and 7 letters). We were back to Merepoule to start it, and she ended up starting it with a Bankrupt. Jfour landed on 150 and called N, but there were none in the puzzle. Gizmo got the puzzle and found an R, but no S's. Gandolf found 4 T's for 600 each, bought the E's and A's, which were all the vowels in the puzzle, until being stopped by a missing B. Merepoule got the puzzle back and found two H's for 600 each, a D for 1000, and an L for 400 more until another Bankrupt wiped out her points and ended her turn. Jfour took advantage of his second chance at the puzzle by finding an M, an F for a free spin, and a P to complete the puzzle, then read what it said - half-hearted attempt - to take Round 3 for 850 points.

With time for at least a fourth puzzle, we went right to it with another 3 word thing (7, 8, and 6 letters). Gizmo started it off with a pair of R's, only to be stopped again by a missing S. Once again, Gandolf called T on the next spin, and it was again in the puzzle, this time for a free spin. He promptly used it after landing on Lose a Turn on his next spin. Gandolf then found two N's for 750 each, but came up empty on an L not in the puzzle. Merepoule took over and placed a D, bought the I's, found two G's for 1000 each, bought the A's, and found a C, before solving - hanging tattered fabric - to win Round 4 for another 2450 points.

Our fifth and final puzzle was a 5 word thing (3, 6, 3, 3, and 7 letters), and Jfour was up first to start it, with a free spin carrying over. Jfour built up a score by finding three T's, two H's for 1000 each, buying the E's, finding an N, then two C's, a G, buying the I's, placing a W for 1000 more, and buying the U, for a total of 5150 points before calling an R not in the puzzle. Jfour turned in his free spin, as one might have suspected he would, only to spin Lose a Turn on the wheel with his next spin. Gizmo got a shot at the puzzle, and took advantage. He placed two D's for 750 each, an L for 600, an S for 400, and an F for 400 more, leaving only vowels. Gizmo then correctly solved - the latest fad: cud-chewing - for 2900 points.

That was all the puzzles we had tonight, and all the time we had tonight. The final totals were:

Merepoule 10200
Gizmo 2900
Gandolf 2600
Jfour 850

Congratulations to Jfour, Gandolf, Gizmo, and especially Merepoule. Everyone solved at least one puzzle tonight and scored. Join us again August 3 in Studio 1 for our next exciting edition of the Fed Phrase Game. And don't forget FEDPARDY! on July 27.
