IT'S TOO DARN HOT*

London is in the grip of a heatwave. The temperatures are in the high eighties. Sure, by American standards, it's probably nothing more than slightly warm, but in England we are not used to temperatures going higher than 60 degrees.

The country just isn't equipped for high temperatures. Public transport isn't air conditioned and neither are most houses. And the British skin certain can't take it - pale, fair people like me just turn bright red and start to burn, then peel, if exposed to the hot sun.

The good news is that I have got next week off work. The bad news is that the weather forecast says it's going to continue to be baking hot, but it's also going to rain. The worst of both worlds when it comes to planning fun stuff to do while I'm on holiday.

The even worse news is that my fridge has just died...

Anyway, today's heat explains why the Star this week is just a bit shorter than normal... it's too hot to write!
