GRAVING DOCKS: THE SAGA CONTINUES

by Hazed

After the code for graving docks finally made it into the live game last weekend, it became apparent that there were a few more bugs than we realized, so Alan has been working hard this week on fixing things - in between several visits to the dentist to sort out ongoing tooth problems, not to mention sweating in the heatwave London is experiencing right now!

The first fix, that went in early in the week, was to provide a way of seeing what's going on with the graving dock. 'DISPLAY GRAVING' shows you what's in the warehouse, and tells you about the status of the build.

But the next problem was that although you could build a graving dock, and look at it, you couldn't keep it - the docks were not being saved properly over the reset. The code to fix that went into the game yesterday. Any Plutocrats who paid out for a graving dock that subsequently vanished can claim compensation - just ask me or Freya in the game, or mail feedback@ibgames.com (Fed2 in the subject line) and we will put the money into your personal balance, so you can transfer it over to the cartel treasury.

With the addition of the command to see your dock, it became clear that the diversion of goods into the dock warehouse instead of the exchange was not working. Alan is working on this fix, assisted by the patience of Occy, Nomad and Freya who have been testing, re-testing and testing again. He's almost got it working right but there's a couple more tweaks that need to be made, so the fixed code will go into the game in the next few days.

If you recall previous news bulletins, the litany of disasters that befell graving docks started with Alan's external hard drive dying. It's obvious now that he lost more work than he had thought, because all of these things that were missing from the code or not working right were things he had actually written the code for... but those lines of code went missing in the hard disk crash.
