REAL LIFE NEWS: AMATEUR ASTRONOMER RECORDS JUPITER IMPACT

by Hazed

An amateur astronomer has recorded something crashing into Jupiter, causing a flash as it made impact. What was it? A comet, or an asteroid, perhaps. Or an alien spacecraft crashlanding. No, probably not that!

The impact happened on June 3 and was spotted by Australian Anthony Wesley. He released a still photo and then later published a video which clearly shows the flash as the collision takes place.

It's not the first time Wesley has spotted this kind of impact - in 2009 he was the first to spot another object colliding with Jupiter, which has now been confirmed as an asteroid impact.

You can see a color photo, and watch the video, here.
