FED PHRASE GAME

Tuesday March 30
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Four players and one spectator joined me in Studio 1 for tonight's edition of the Fed Phrase Game. Gizmo, trav, Honkintoda, and Trogdor came in to play, and Squeeky came in to watch the game. For our new players, I explained how this game is played like the old Earth TV game show Wheel of Fortune. With how to play clarified, we then went about setting their playing order. Honkintoda ended up first, followed by Trogdor, Gizmo, and Trav.

Tonight's first puzzle was a 2 word landmark (7 and 6 letters). Honkintoda got on the board with 400 for an R, but then there were no S's on its next spin. Trogdor found a T for 1000, then an N for 500 more, before a Bankrupt wiped out the points and his turn. Gizmo found an L, but no H. Trav picked up a free spin with an M, but then found no D, and decided to save his free spin. Honkintoda found a P, bought the E's and A, then called a missing C. Trogdor couldn't find a K in the puzzle. Gizmo landed on Lose a Turn. And Trav couldn't place any V's in the puzzle, and again elected to save his free spin. The third crack at the puzzle was the charm for Honkintoda, as it found a Y, then bought an O, then solved the puzzle - Ryoanji Temple to win Round 1 for 600 points.

Trogdor got to start our second puzzle, a 5 word thing (4, 4, 2, 10, and 9 letters). He found a pair of T's for 1000 each, bought the E's, then bought an A not in the puzzle. Gizmo took over and found R's, an S, bought I's, found three N's for 1000 each, an L, bought the O, and found a pair of C's for a total of 4450 points before a missing F ended her turn. Trav with that free spin from the first round started off by placing a Q in the puzzle, followed by a P, M, and D, at which point he solved - wire used in electronic equipment - for 2100 points.

Our third puzzle was 3 word people (7, 3, and 6 letters), and Honkintoda was up next to start the puzzle. It started off by landing on 400 and calling R, but there were none in the puzzle. Trogdor found a pair of S's, a T, bought the A, placed an N, bought the E's, placed a D, bought the I's, and placed a pair of H's to bring his total to 2300, enough to take the lead if he could solve. Interestingly, he decided to pass his turn, so Gizmo took over. Gizmo found a C, but no P. Trav tried an L, to no avail, and decided to continue holding his free spin. Honkintoda tried a missing M, and we were back to Trogdor, who decided to pass his turn yet again. This time, Gizmo found a B, and then an X to complete the puzzle, and then solved it - Techies and exhibs - for 1700 points, just 400 off the lead.

I had a fourth puzzle ready to go, and everybody but Trogdor, who said he had to go, was available to play it. Since Trogdor wasn't in the lead and was the only one not able to stay, with borderline time elapsed in tonight's game, I let those who could stay play a fourth round. Trav, the leader, was up first to start the puzzle, carrying over his free spin from the first round. Trav started by finding a pair of S's for 1000 each, a pair of T's, bought the E's, found an R, then two N's for 1000 each, bought the O, found an M for another 1000, a D, and an F, leaving only vowels, and then solved - anti-meteor defenses - for 6550 points.

With that final puzzle, Trav widened considerably his first place margin with a total of 8650 points. Gizmo held second with 1700, and Honkintoda third with 600. Congratulations to all who solved puzzles, and thanks also to Trogdor for playing, and Squeeky for watching and cheering on the players, even volunteering to try occupying the Bankrupt space in an effort to keep it from being landed on. Join us again April 13, beginning at 10.00pm eastern for our next exciting edition of the Fed Phrase Game. And don't forget FEDPARDY! on April 6.
