REAL LIFE NEWS: LIST OF FIRST INTERNET DOMAINS SHOWS GAMES COMPANY LINKED TO FED

by Hazed

It's 25 years since the first .com domains were registered to be used on the fledgling internet. The new system for registering commercial domain names was implemented in January 1985, but it took until March 15 before the first dotcom name was registered.

To mark that anniversary, a website has pulled together a list of the 100 oldest .com domains that are still in existence. You can read it here: http://dnsknowledge.com/news/25-years-of-the-com/ along with a lot of other useful information about domains.

What makes it significant for us is the domain name showing at number 34: KESMAI.COM.

Kesmai were the company that came up with the ground-breaking online flight sim, Air Warrior. When Fed2 first opened up in the US on the GEnie system, Kesmai were also there. Later, we did a deal with them to move Fed off GEnie's computers and onto the Kesmai servers which were faster, and Fed ran on their Aries system, with GEnie players piped through to the game.

So it's cool to see our friends from Kesmai show up on this list!

Incidentally, we don't come close to being in that top 100 - ibgames.com wasn't registered until 1996.
