REAL LIFE NEWS: THE TERRIFYING DANGERS OF THE HOT TUB

by Hazed

It's always fun when national accident statistics come out - breakdowns of injuries caused by different items during a year. The UK version always focusses on particularly British things such as injuries caused by tea cosies or biscuits (cookies, to you Americans).

Now the American version has been published by the Center for Injury Research and Policy, and the major danger to US citizens, it appears, is hot tubs! The report says, "unintentional hot tub-related injuries increased by 60%, from approximately 2,500 to more than 6,600 injuries per year" over the period 1990-2007. Wow. Just what are people doing in their hot tubs to end up so damaged?

"Lacertations were the most commonly reported injuries," the report goes on to say, and that "the lower extremities (27%) and the head (26%) were the most frequently injured body parts." Plus there are "tub-related injuries associated with suction drains (such as entanglement, body entrapment and drowning). Good grief - these things are lethal!

If you have a hot tub, my advice is to get rid of immediately, before it rises up and kills you in your sleep.
