PICTURE OF THE WEEK: MARTIAN DUST DEVILSby HazedTake a look at this picture of the Martian surface. It shows dark trails that twist and twine across the terrain. They are caused by Martian dust devils - miniature wind vortices, spinning columns of rising air heated by the warm surface. They pick up loose dust which is red-colored and leave behind the darker, heavier sand, thus creating these strange patterns. One more thing I am going to have to incorporate into the Fed2 planet maps! |
