IMPROMPTU RACE ECHOES TORTOISE AND HARE

Friday June 5
by Jezz

On the spur of the moment on Friday, I decided to offer a slithy as a prize for a Magellan Cup style event. Dingbat, Orhlaandiis and Damdm met Zzeria at the Spaceport dorm on Earth and Zzeria explained the rules.

Zzeria gave the first clue to a location in Sol where another person was hiding with the clue to the next location on her clothing description. The clues were numbered and had to be done in order. If anyone accidentally found a clue that should come later they still had to go back and find the right one before proceeding. Of course the hidden clue-bearers could report to me when each person found them so there was no way to cheat.

Clue number one, given by Zzeria, was... "Anything can be talked about here, even the DNA staircase. It's a shame Tracey can't think of anything to say."

Dingbat and Orhlaandiis both started in the right direction to Phobos. Dingbat wandered the halls of Alpha Dome while Orhlaandiis explored for a while before she found the buggy park and got the card. Dingbat found The Conversation Pit upstairs in Alpha dome and quickly obtained his next clue by examining the clue-bearer.

The second clue was... "Forrest Gump didn't draw this big yellow circle. Marvin must have jumped on the bandwagon."

Dingbat got there first again. Yes it was the smiley face on Mars, south of the Spaceport. Unfortunately, Damdm was called away by a higher power so it was down to Orhlaandiis to give the fleet-footed Dingbat some competition. As Orhlaandiis found the Conversation Pit on Phobos, Dingbat had received the next clue which was... "These legs will never fit in the Colonel's fryer... what were those scientists thinking? At least they don't sing like some of the other experiments."

Dingbat Headed off to Rhea Biological Lab while Orhlaandiis traipsed all over Mars looking for a big yellow circle. It was starting to look like Dingbat had that slithy won and spent already. But then he found the last clue.

"Get back to Earth and find Jezz. She's in the doghouse, or rather under it."

That one seemed to have Dingbat truly stumped. Meanwhile, Orhlaandiis was steadily eating up the distance between them. Dingbat headed for the zoo, thinking that there might be dogs there. Amazingly, Orhlaandiis tried the Mansion first and while Dingbat scurried around much farther south and east, Orhlaandiis dropped into the Broken Teleporter room under the doghouse in the backyard of the mansion and claimed the prize!

Orhlaadiis later admitted that she hadn't been to the mansion before because she thought it might be one of those dreaded death locations. But throwing caution to the wind, she decided to try there, and came up victorious!

As for me, well my fingers are still a little sore and stiff from trying to maintain my death grip on that slithy.

Well done to both Orhlaandiis and Dingbat. They made a great race out of it.
