FEDPARDY

Tuesday April 21
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

I got three players and one spectator for tonight's edition of FEDPARDY! Dingbat, Brenna, and Leto were the players who joined me, with Meteu watching in the studio. I went over the rules for those who needed them, and when that was done, we looked at the categories for the night. They were: Death and Taxes, The Ming is a Fink!, Planets of the Solar System, and Give me an E! The players spun the wheel for the right to select first, and Leto gained that honor. He selected Planets for 1, and we were underway.

Dingbat rang in and got that first answer for the first point of the game, but then we saw the players go through some difficulties. Dingbat got the 2 wrong. Dingbat and Leto both missed on the 3 pointer. Dingbat changed categories and started the Ming category for 1. Brenna tried it first, but got it wrong, enabling Dingbat to pick up the point afterwards. Leto tried but missed on the 2 in that category, and then Dingbat found the first of two Daily Doubles under the next answer. Dingbat decided to risk 3 points to get out of the hole, and this was the Daily Double:

This character sold trading cards, including Ming, in an "Emperors of the Galaxy" collectible set.

Unfortunately for Dingbat, he couldn't come up with any response, let alone "Who is Clive?" for that answer. Dingbat went back to the Planets category for 4, which Leto got, and Brenna the 5. She picked the E category for 1, which Dingbat got. He then selected E for 5 to finish the first half. Brenna tried it, but got it wrong to lose 5 points, and nobody else tried it. At the break, Leto and Brenna were tied at -1, with Dingbat at -5. Dingbat received first choice in Double Fedpardy as the one trailing, and all remaining answers having their point values doubled.

Dingbat selected E for 4, and Leto got that one. Dingbat came back by getting the 6 and 8 point answers in E to finish the category and go on the plus side. Dingbat started Death and Taxes for 2 next. Dingbat and Leto both tried it, and both missed it for -2. On the 4-pointer, Leto missed it and Dingbat got it right. Dingbat got the 6 next, and then the 8 after Leto tried it and missed. Dingbat then selected the 10 pointer in Death and Taxes and found the other Daily Double. Way ahead at that point, he decided to risk 10 points on it, and this was his answer:

Even death need not be a final farewell with life insurance. Should you have need to collect on your policy, renewing your insurance costs this much the first time.

And Dingbat got it right with 1000 IG. That left Ming for 8 and 10, but nobody tried either one, and we came to the end of Double Fedpardy. The scores were:

Dingbat: 35
Brenna: -1
Leto: -11

Dingbat advanced alone to Final Fedpardy, and got the category of * Who's Who * to help him decide how much to wager. He placed his bet, I went over last-minute admonitions for Final Fedpardy, Dingbat acknowledged he was ready, and I presented tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

A Phorban, he prefers to cloak himself in leather slickers and platinum from Earth rather than the floral fabrics worn by most Phorbans. He is also the only Fedder whose race begins with a capital letter.

After 60 seconds, we looked to see what he had written down for a response and found... a blank screen - no response. So Dingbat didn't get it right. (Gandolf was the right response.) And his wager was all 35 points, dropping him to zero. But he had still secured this week's Fedpardy championship. Congratulations to Dingbat, thanks to Leto and Brenna, and Meteu who watched the whole thing in the Studio. Join us again on May 5, starting at 10.00pm eastern, for our next edition of FEDPARDY! And let's not forget the Fed Phrase Game April 28.
