REAL LIFE NEWS: TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING CAN BE FATAL

by Hazed

Food-eating contests have always struck me as strange. What virtue is there is forcing a mountain of burgers, or hundreds of bananas, or heaps of biscuits, down your gullet as fast as you possibly can? Food should be savoured and enjoyed. Still, lots of people disagree with me and this type of competition is popular around the World.

But it's not always just a fun pastime. It can be fatal, as a Russian man has just demonstrated. Boris Isayev, 48, took part in a pancake-eating contest in the town of Chermyakhovsk. The do was organized to celebrate the end of "Butter Week", a week-long festival in the run-up to Lent.

Lucky Boris won the contest, eating 43 banana and cream-packed pancakes. But as he claimed his prize for gluttony, he dropped dead!

An eyewitness said that he was, "The most active participant in the contest," who "ate all the types of pancakes on offer and won fairly. He had really enjoyed the pancakes but then he started foaming at the mouth and went down like a sack of stones."

Medics tried to revive Boris but failed. It is believed he choked to death on a piece of pancake stuck in his throat.
