FEDPARDY!

Tuesday February 24
by Fancy-Fancy, Techno-Cat of Toontown

Four players arrived at Studio 1 for tonight's edition of FEDPARDY! Munabilo, Tinviper, Tenabutter, and Jewells all came to play. All assured me they already knew how to play, so we went right to tonight's categories. They were: The Killer B's, Paradise City, Species in Fed, and Music in Fed. Tinviper won the first selection with the spins of the studio wheel, and started by selecting Music in Fed for 1.

Munabilo scored the first point, as well as the second with The Killer B's for 1. Tenabutter picked the 2 in that category, and Tinviper the 3 after Munabilo tried and missed it. Music for 2 got passed, as it was for 3. Music for 4 got tried by Munabilo, tried again by Jewells, and then finally tried and bagged by Tinviper. Munabilo then surprised some by ringing in on the 5-pointer in Music, and getting it right. Munabilo then started Paradise City for 1, and got the 1-pointer. The 2-point answer in the category was passed on, and that brought us to the half-way break. Tinviper led with 7, to 2 for Tenabutter, 1 for Munabilo, and -4 for Jewells.

After I announced that Jewells would get the first selection of Double Fedpardy, she let me know that she had to retire for the night, so that selection went to Munabilo instead, and he started Double Fedpardy with Species in Fed for 2. No one tried that one, but in response to Tenabutter's wondering how Xiphosurans in the clue was pronounced, I offered my guess of "ZIF-oh-SOOR-ans". Muna then selected The Killer B's for 8, and beat others to the buzzer to get that one right. Tinviper then finished off that category by correctly identifying what the B's in "BEEBs" stood for and scoring 10 points. Tinviper and I both impressed Munabilo by identifying the full meaning of the acronym at the same time, and agreeing. We moved to Paradise City after that for 6, and found the first Daily Double. Tinviper decided to risk 3 points on it, and this was the answer:

More than a dozen of these are precariously piled in a heap. Some spill out across the table, some boast the remnants of wax seals and ribbon. None seem to be in any language you can read.

Tinviper wasn't able to come up with a response, losing 3 points, but Tenabutter for fun was able to correctly identify them as scrolls. Viper selected Paradise City for 8 next, and Munabilo beat Viper to the buzzer, but got it wrong. Tinviper then rang in and got it right to pick up those 8 points. Tinviper selected Species in Fed for 4, and just as we were about to pass it, Tinviper rang in and got it correct. Munabilo scored the 6 in that category, and then found the other Daily Double. Trailing Tinviper 26-7, Munabilo went for the maximum bet of 10 points on Species in Fed, and this was the answer:

The Arcturan version of this is over 7 feet tall; its head and body black with yellow and white stripes; body fairly stout; wings smoky gray. They are noted for their aggressive temper and grouchiness.

Munabilo responded, "What is a dragon?", but that was incorrect. A visit to Paradise will let you see the described wasp at... Three Ethnics and a Wasp. Munabilo finished off Paradise City for 10, and Tinviper got it. The lone remaining answer, Species for 10, got passed over by everyone, bringing us to the end of Double Fedpardy. Our scores were:

Tinviper: 36
Tenabutter: 2
Munabilo: -3
Jewells: -4

Tinviper and Tenabutter advanced to Final Fedpardy, and got the category of Planetary Infrastructure to help them decide their wagers. When each had decided and registered their wagers and verified they were ready, I presented tonight's Final Fedpardy answer:

Besides the relatively new Leisure Mega-Centers, this build directly affects the consumption of a commodity.

After 60 seconds, we looked at what each had responded. Tenabutter's response was "What is housing?", which was incorrect. She wagered both her points, leaving her with nothing.

Tinviper didn't get a response in, so that cost it. Its wager was 16 points, leaving it with 20, which was still plenty to make it this week's FEDPARDY! champion!

Congratulations to Tinviper, winner of this week's FEDPARDY! Congrats also to Tenabutter, the runner-up, and thanks to Munabilo and Jewells for also playing tonight. Join me again on March 10, starting at 10.00pm eastern for our next exciting edition of FEDPARDY! And on March 3, we have the Fed Phrase Game.
