FEDPARDY!

Tuesday December 16
by Fancy-Fancy, Technocrat of Toontown

Four players and one spectator joined me for tonight's edition of FEDPARDY! Dopplershift, Jewells, Munabilo, and later Jazir came into Studio 1 to play, while Orim tuned in to watch the live broadcast. After a refresher on the rules, we took a look at tonight's categories. They were: X marks the Spot, Y Not, Baby it's Cold Outside, and Games Fedders Play. With spins of the wheel, Jewells gained the honor of the first selection. With her selection of Baby it's Cold Outside for 1, the game was underway.

Jewells picked up the first positive point by getting the correct response to her chosen answer after Doppler tried it but missed. The 2 pointer got passed, and Jewells started on X for 1. Munabilo got that one correct after misses by Jewells and Doppler. Munabilo also scored the 2 and 4 pointers before finding the first Daily Double under the 5 point answer. With 7 points available to bet, Muna risked 4 on X, and this was the answer:

The commodity groups without at least one commodity name containing the letter X.

Munabilo responded, "what is technical?", but that was only partly right. The leisure group is the other. Having finished X, Muna started on Y for 1. Munabilo beat Jazir to the buzzer on that one to get it, while Jazir was quicker on the 2 point answer to get that one. With the last selection of the first half, Jazir found the other Daily Double. He risked 1 point, and this was his answer:

Standing in here, you start to shiver; whether it's from the cold, or from the reminders around you that not everyone is lucky enough to have insurance, you don't know.

Jazir correctly identified the mortuary to win his bet, bringing us to the break. Munabilo was our leader then with 4 points, Jazir right behind with 3, Jewells with 0, and Dopplershift in the hole with -5.

Doppler got the first selection of Double Fedpardy, and selected Games Fedders Play for 2 to start it. Jazir beat Munabilo to the buzzer to grab that one, then Muna rang in ahead of Doppler for the 4 point answer. Jewells announced she had to go, so we bid her farewell. Munabilo got the 6 in Y, and Doppler missed on the 8 and 10 in the category. Nobody tried Cold for 8, but Jazir rang in first on Play for 6 and got it. Doppler then got Games Fedders Play for 8, and everyone passed the 10. Doppler tried the final answer on the board, Cold for 10, but missed, and no one else attempted it, bringing us to the end of Double Fedpardy. Munabilo held the lead with 14 points to 11 for Jazir, 0 for Jewells, and -25 for Dopplershift.

Munabilo and Jazir advanced to Final Fedpardy, with the chance to bet as many of their points as they wished, given the category of Commands. After each placed their wagers and acknowledged they were ready, I presented the Final Fedpardy answer:

The help command shows 25 variants for this base command in Fed.

When 60 seconds were up, and responses registered, we started with Jazir, who wrote down, "What is help buy?" That was incorrect, though. Jazir's wager was 11 points, dropping him down to nothing. His attempt to change his response to "help display" did not arrive within the allotted time.

That left Munabilo, whose response was "what is 'display'?". That was correct. Munabilo's wager was 14 points, doubling its score, and making Munabilo this week's Fedpardy champion!

Congratulations to Munabilo on its win! And thanks to all its competitors tonight, Jazir, Jewells, and Dopplershift, and to our audience of Orim. I hope to have you back for our 2008 finale on December 30. And don't forget our Fed Phrase Game 2008 finale on December 23, each of which begins at 10.00pm eastern.
