THE IMPORTANCE OF VOTING DAILY

by Hazed

This article is split into three parts. The first part is for those that haven't got a clue what voting for Fed is all about. The second part is for those that know about it, but don't do it. And the third and final part is for those that do vote regularly.

You are not obliged to read the whole article, but please do read the section that applies to you.

Part 1: For Voting Novices

Maybe you've seen messages about voting for Fed on the electronic noticeboard in the game, or heard people on the comms going on about it, but if you are a relative newcomer to the game you might not understand what it's all about - or why it's important. Well, I'm here to enlighten you.

Fed2 needs a constant influx of new players, to keep the game fresh. For that to happen, new people need to find out about the game. Since we don't have any money, we can't pay for big advertising campaigns (not even small ones) so any promoting of the game that we do must be the kind that doesn't cost anything. One of the ways that new players can find out about Fed2 without us having to pay anything is to read about the game on a website devoted to multi-player games - The MUD Connector. It's the biggest such site on the web so a valuable source of new players.

But there are thousands of games out there, so how do we make the info about Fed2 stand out, to ensure players come to us instead of the other games? Well, TMC has a ranking system that lists the games in order of their popularity. The popularity is determined by players of the games voting for their favorites. Anybody can vote once a day (if you vote more often, your votes will be discounted) and the votes are totted up to determine the position on the list. As I write this, Fed2 is in the number 8 position - a very respectable place to be - but we won't stay there unless people keep on voting, every single day.

So please, make a habit of voting every day - add it to your routine: sit down at computer, check email, log onto Fed2, vote! Here's the link to the vote, or you can click the button the front page of the ibgames website.

Part 2: For Casual Voters

Maybe you know about voting and did it once, or a few times, but don't do it regularly because it's too much trouble to remember to vote every day. Maybe you haven't ever bothered to vote because you don't see how one vote can make all that much difference.

Here's the thing. You, a single, solitary player, can make an enormous difference. TMC's voting cycle runs for two months, then they zero it and start all over again. They've just done that, and the race has started anew. If you vote for Fed2 every day, then that means 60 votes will be added to our score in a voting cycle. That's enough to jump us up a few places in the league table.

So your vote does matter. It really does. Make voting for Fed2 part of your daily routine. Add the voting link to your browser's favorites, put a post-it note on the side of your monitor, carve a reminder into the back of your hand... whatever you need to do to ensure you remember to vote every day. Please.

Part 3: For Regular Voters

I don't need to tell you anything - except, Thank You. Less than a week into the new voting cycle, we're at number 8. We stayed in the top ten all of the last cycle. That's because of you. Please keep on voting every day and encourage your friends to do the same. Maybe this cycle, we can get into the top five!
