WHAT HAS HE GOT IN HIS POCKETSES?

by Hazed

Two more of the commands to do with displaying objects have now been implemented: 'CARRY objectname' and 'POCKET objectname'. These work just like 'WEAR' and 'DOFF' which were added last week - they determine how objects show up when a player examines you. Like objects being worn, objects you are carrying are visible to other players. When you examine someone now you will see:

>ex pugwash
Pugwash is dressed in a nondescript grey coverall, like most of the rest of the population.

Pugwash is wearing:
A gold star. The twinkling gold star is an award from the demi-goddess Hazed for services to Fed DataSpace. Give it a rub and it will shine even more brightly.

A tin foil hat charm. This tiny tin foil hat is made from the highest-quality crumpled silver foil, shaped to fit a teeny little head. A twisted wire coathanger pokes out of the top, acting as an antenna to both receive and deflect signals.

Pugwash is carrying:

A cocktail stick. This silver plastic cocktail stick has the words "Magellan Space Station" written along the side.
A scarab. The details on the scarab are eerily life like. Thankfully this one doesn't seem to want to move. There are however some grooves along its sides as if it was meant to be inserted somewhere.

In your inventory, the objects are marked as being carried, like this:

>i
You check out your personal kit - a comm unit (the screen glows with a premium ticker logo), a ship permit, and that seems to be it.
You have with you:
some stardust
a cocktail stick [carried]
a catnip
a gold star [wearing]
a tin foil hat charm [wearing]
a scarab [carried]
6 objects
You also discover a card from the Hounslow Brasserie, which you accidently drop and are unable to retrieve.

Note that this is purely cosmetic - there is no practical difference in what you can do with an object when you are carrying it. This is not a sword-n-sorcery type game where you have to select what weapon you want to use and carry it: your broadsword in your right hand, your shield in your left hand, your helmet on your head and so on. No, the command is there simply to give you more flexibility about how you show off your possessions.

Still to come is the 'CLIP' command which will let you attach an object to your keyring. That would have been here this week, except that Alan's development computer died and he had to spend several days putting all his development tools, and the Fed2 code, onto a different machine. You should now see it by next weekend.
